I have often read Jesus’ words, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:5). In reading these and similar passages, I have wondered, When will this time come, and how will it be recognized? |

NO LIE IS OF THE TRUTH
I
have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye
know it, and that no lie is of the truth. (1 John 2:21)

PERILOUS TIMES
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:1–5)

A CALL TO TEST THE SPRITS
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)

THREE UNCLEAN SPIRITS
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Revelation 16:13–14)

LET NO MAN DECEIVE YOU
The Warning
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. (Luke 21:8)
And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (Mark 13:5–6)

THE DANGER OF SELF-DECEPTION
Every
one of us has been deceived at one time or another. We have placed
confidence in a person, business, product, or organization, only to be
disappointed. This disappointment may have cost us time or money, and
it can undermine our trust in people. Deception is usually due to a
lack of information or forthrightness from those we have dealt with.
And we say to ourselves, “If I had only known.”

THE FALSE PROPHETS
And
many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall
arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and
wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the
very elect. (Matthew 24:11, 24)

WHO IS INFLUENCING US—
THE TRUE OR FALSE MINISTER?
Most
everyone who claims a belief in God, whether practicing their religious
beliefs privately or involved in church fellowships, will be exposed to
teachers and pastors. This exposure can be through radio or internet,
books, TV, DVDs and CDs, or at a church fellowship. Therefore it is
necessary for us to look at the Bible’s standard of a true minister.
